Shifting
“Most of us have spent much of our lives working on the project of improving and developing our separate sense of self in order to succeed, win approval, and find happiness.
We must have the willingness to go through the gap of not knowing, non-ego, and not being in control.”
Loch Kelly. “Shift into Freedom. The Science and Practice of Open-hearted Awareness.” Sounds True, Boulder, Colorado, 2015.
Between the time when we start school, start a career, start a family and eventually end our working career, we have a full-time identity-building project on the go. Even during this egoic trajectory - "making a name for ourselves" - we tend to have questions & doubts.
Much of it, we gradually realize, was built on "groupthink": consensual fairy tales of certainty, solid identity, and control.
Gradually, with age & some wisdom, comes a very different way of seeing and doing things (that is not related to identity-building nor cynicism).
