Things I SHOULD Worry About??
A thoughtful participant in an 8-week MBSR course shared that, while much of "self-talk" is just a distraction, some thoughts do actually remind him of things he should "worry about" - things he may otherwise forget to act on. Such ideas are so thoroughly ingrained in our present culture, that I actually agreed with him.
A day later, I was struck by his comment. In this context, couldn't the word "worry" be accurately replaced with "suffer"? Does it help in any way to worry / suffer about things we can control? How about things over which we have no control?
Mindfully listening to words, we ourselves use, can provide surprising insight into our own lives. We practice noticing & gradually letting go of all the unnecessary suffering that hinders our authenticity.
